Where is Wilkes University?

Located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, a city of about 40,000 people, Wilkes is in walking distance of a movie theatre, stores, restaurants, banks and businesses to keep you busy and serve your needs away from home.

Wilkes University believes in expanding our global perspective through a commitment to education in an evolving and multicultural world. We offer degree programs for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as programs to help international students improve their English language skills.

International Baccalaureate

Wilkes University rewards qualified students who have demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence. We understand the time commitment and effort high school students put in to successfully complete their IB courses. At Wilkes we want to share in your success and hard work by awarding college credit for your IB courses. Currently, courses are reviewed on a case by case basis with our faculty members. International student merit scholarships are based on previous academic performance. Scholarships are awarded at the time of admission decision after all required materials has beenreceived.

  • Freshman Scholarships| $14,000 – $21,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study
  • Transfer Scholarships| $10,000 – $18,000 per year for undergraduate studies
  • PHI THETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIP: $2,000
    • Awarded to transfer students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, in addition to the transfer scholarship listed above; proof of PTK membership must be submitted with admission application
  • Canada Provincial Scholarship | $1,000 – $5,000 additional scholarship money
    • Must be a citizen of Canada
    • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Must enroll as a first-year student at Wilkes and reside on-campus
  • Global Colonel Award | $1,000 – $5,000 additional scholarship money
    • Must be studying in an US high school on an F-1 Visa
    • Must have GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • Must enroll as a first-year student at Wilkes and reside on-campus

Intensive English Program | The Intensive English Program at Wilkes University will immerse you in the study of English language and American culture to help prepare you for university studies. Our program has been recognized as one of the best in the U.S. and is a member of UCIEP.

Global Education and Diversity | The Center for Global Education and Diversity provides cultural, social and academic support for our international students on campus. Once you are accepted to Wilkes, the Center for Global Education and Diversity will assist you in getting your Form I-20.
