Student Organizations

The goal of the Pre-Pharmacy Club is to introduce students, aspiring to enter the Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy to opportunities they will have throughout pharmacy school and in their future careers. The club is actively involved in organizing activities for the students as well as volunteering in the community. Members will be able to receive helpful information from pharmacy students enrolled in the professional program as well as faculty from the School of Pharmacy. Students also have the opportunity to speak with several pharmacists at a panel discussion.

Lambda Kappa Sigma is an international pharmacy fraternity that embraces the ideals of leadership, service, and collaboration among students and pharmacists to promote professional and personal growth. The Wilkes University Alpha Phi chapter holds a variety of professional and social events throughout the year including Lunch and Learn information sessions, a Girl Scout First Aid Badge event, and much more! 

Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity is the oldest and largest professional pharmacy fraternity in the world. Kappa Psi has thousands of members who are actively practicing in many facets of pharmacy. Kappa Psi strives to promote the field of pharmacy through the benefits of fraternal affiliation and innovation. At Wilkes University, the Delta Omicron chapter is involved in numerous professional and community service projects. Once you become a brother in Kappa Psi, you are a brother for life.

Pharmacy Student Senate is the governing body of the Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. Its sovereignty oversees each pharmacy club and their members. Senate hosts numerous events, including the career fair, pharmacy ball, and end of the semester student body meeting. Positions held include team leaders, class presidents and vice presidents, and an executive board. Senate also gives you an opportunity to serve on faculty and staff committees to ensure our student voices are heard! 

PPA is an organization that is dedicated to the pharmacists and student pharmacists in Pennsylvania. PPA members can participate in events like Letter Writing Campaigns and Legislative Day to meet their legislators to educate them about important issues facing pharmacy in Pennsylvania. Students can also participate in fundraising events, educational sessions, and community projects. PPA also offers Midyear and Annual meeting for students to participate in, which allow for networking, residency opportunities, and much more!

APhA-ASP is the organization that offers students a variety of opportunities in hospital, community, managed care, and any other field of pharmacy you may be interested in. APhA offers networking opportunities at the Midyear and Annual meetings every year. APhA also offers students a way to be involved through its patient care projects which consist of Operation Diabetes, Operation Heart, Operation Immunization, along with many more!

NCPA is the organization focused around community pharmacy practice. Activities include blood pressure screenings, bingo with the elderly, brown bag events, and much more! An annual conference is held in October to allow independent pharmacists and students to interact – a wonderful opportunity to make connections and network for your future. Independent pharmacies offer a variety of services such as MTM clinics, immunizations, durable medical equipment, diabetes education, blood pressure monitoring, and compounding services. 

The student chapter or SSHP (Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists) is for students interested in learning about careers in hospitals or other health care settings. Some of the events students can participate in include a residency fair and residency information session, which promote post-graduate specialization opportunities. In addition, this organization hosts a Clinical Skills Competition, participates in community service events, and coordinates patient care projects. ASHP also offers networking opportunities through monthly dinner meetings with the North Eastern Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists (NEPSHP).

The mission of the Wilkes University Chapter of AMCP is to educate the students, university, and community about how insurance companies and other major healthcare organizations allocate funds and provide benefits to their members. AMCP provides opportunities to learn about this area through service projects, guest speakers, and information sessions.  Managed care principles are valuable tools can be applied to any field of pharmacy.

The goal of the Wilkes University PPAG Chapter is to raise awareness regarding Pediatric Pharmacy and to encourage its members to promote the well being of children at work, school, and in life. PPAG offers students an opportunity to educate children on health and medicine, while learning more about this rewarding career opportunity. PPAG takes part in events that support common childhood problems, including Childhood Obesity Awareness Month, Autism Awareness Month, and Healthy Kids Day.

Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International is a new organization to Wilkes University. CPFI is a professional organization and worldwide ministry dedicated to serving pharmacists, pharmacy students, and those in all areas of pharmacy practice. Prospective events include guest speakers, SD-IPPE opportunities, and community service events. 

The mission of Phi Lambda Sigma is to support pharmacy leadership commitment by recognizing leaders and fostering leadership development. Prior to acceptance into the society, you must complete an application process. The top leaders are then selected based on the leadership qualities they possess. As a member of PLS, you can participate in the preparation of Pharmacy Welcome Week in the Fall, and Pharmacy Week in the Spring. Other events include the annual Pharmacy School Clothing Sale, the Nesbitt Cup Volunteer Competition, and a CV Review. 

Rho Chi is an academic honor society that consists of the top 20% of each pharmacy class. The top 15% are inducted in the spring of P2 year, and another 5% during the spring of P3 year. Rho Chi takes part in a variety of events, including health fairs, peer tutoring, presentations on health emergencies to education majors, and hosting the P3 APPE poster fair.
