Based on extensive discussion by the Cabinet and Deans Council a their joint summer retreat,

the University will focus its strategic plan implementation efforts in AY2009 in 12 areas related to the action plans noted above. They are:

  • restarting and strengthening the academic and administrative program review processes with a strong emphasis on assessment
  • continuing and intensifying the Capital Campaign
  • preparing the Middle States Self Study
  • building a compelling case for a law school
  • development of college strategic plans
  • assessment and improvement of the general education core
  • continuation of building the University’s capacity to deliver the mentoring brand
  • strategic budget reallocation
  • updating of the Campus Master Plan
  • development of a five-year comprehensive technology plan
  • building on a sound inventory of the University’s greenhouse gas production completed this summer, developing a long-range plan to reduce this production significantly
  • completion of an employee satisfaction survey
  • developing a strategic and facilities plans for the library that prepares students to find, evaluate and use information in a digital world

As we have worked on the implementation of Vision 2010, it is clear that these initiatives are highly interdependent. Finding creative ways to exploit the synergies between them will be a critical factor in Wilkes’ achievement of greatness. Support will be provided to each of these action-planning teams in such areas as opportunities for the development of team and individual competencies, and the provision of appropriate technical support, and, in selected cases, assigning faculty and staff time where the workload is sufficient to merit such assignment.
