Summer 2021 Housing Information

The information below is designed to answer any questions you might have about living on campus in the summer at Wilkes University.  You will want to submit a housing application and possibly choose a roommate for the summer. Important Dates

For students taking classes in the pre-session immediately following Commencement, they will move into their summer assignment on an assigned date. After that, students will check in with the Residence Life Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., before their summer class begins to retrieve their key. 

Summer Housing ends on August 6, 2021 for all students on campus. Students who have Fall 2021 housing assignments will transition to those assignments on August 6. Students who are not living on campus for the Fall semester will have to move out of the halls on this date. No exceptions will be made as we need to prepare the residence halls for Fall Move In. 

Accommodations

For the summer, we will have several halls that we will assign students in. We will be utilizing several of our mansion style halls to accommodate our summer research students, students taking classes, and students staying for various University administrative functions. Each student will receive:

  • A living space furnished with a bed, desk, desk chair, dresser and wardrobe/closet space
  • Laundry facilities 

  • Cleaning services for common use areas, including common area bathrooms

  • One basic cable television outlet per unit 

  • Internet access 


We will try to give summer housing students single rooms if at all possible, but single rooms are not guaranteed for the summer. It will depend on demand for summer housing accommodations. 

Summer Housing Rates

For the Summer 2021 term, all students that have a University-related reason for being on campus, will receive housing free of charge. For all students not enrolled in classes, students will be expected to identify their reason for being on campus and identify a Wilkes University faculty or staff member who can confirm their activities. This includes:

  • Taking classes during either summer term. 
  • Participating in an internship for academic credit. 
  • Participating in faculty-sponsored research. 
  • Work-study position for Wilkes University department. 

Housing will only be provided during the time the student is engaged in the University activity. Once that activity is over, the student will be expected to vacate their residential space. For example, a student taking a class during First Day Session will be eligible for housing from Sunday, June 6 through Saturday, July 10. 

Summer Dining Rates

Students are not required to have a meal plan over the summer. As such, students are encouraged to bring their own mini-refrigerators. The dining hall will be open during the weekdays and summer students may wish to purchase a meal plan. Please log into the portal to do so. The rates are as follows:

  • 25 Meals (Board swipes): $216
  • 50 Meals (Board Swipes) + $100 Dining Dollars: $532

Completing Your Housing Application

In order to receive housing accommodations for the summer, you will need to complete a housing application. This application will require you to affirm the Summer 2021 Housing Contract. In addition, once you complete the application, you will receive a copy sent to your Wilkes University email address. Applications will be available beginning April 6, 2021 and will be due April 28, 2021. 

Please follow these step-by-step instructions on how to complete your housing contract. 
1. Log on to the Wilkes Portal.
2. Click on the Student Services tab. 
3. Scroll down to the Housing & Dining Channel. 
4. Click on My On Campus Housing & Dining.
5. On the new screen, click on the Application tab on the top menu bar. 
6. Click on the Summer Housing Application (Summer 2021).

7. Follow the flow of the application, starting with an electronic signature and completing all questions. 
8. When your application is complete, click Submit. You should receive an email confirmation. Save this email in the event there is an issue with your application!

Creating A Roommate Group (Optional)

If you know another student with whom you would like to live for the summer, you may request that student. All of our summer students should be prepared to have a roommate assignment. 

Please follow these step-by-step instructions on how to create a roommate group. 
1. Log on to the MyWilkes Portal.
2. Click on the Student Services tab.
3. Scroll down to the Housing & Dining Channel.
4. Click on My On Campus Housing & Dining.
5. On the new screen, click on the Room Selection tab on the top menu bar, then click Roommates/Suitemates.
6. Search for your desired roommate(s) with a simple First Name/Last Name and email address search.
Repeat these steps for all desired roommates. 

All requests will be sent via email to your fellow students. Requests will need to be accepted in order for the roommate group to be formed. Make sure that you check back to your housing portal to ensure your roommate requests have been accepted. All roommate requests must be received by April 28, 2021 in order to be considered. 

Next Steps
