Wilkes University Cheerleading

The Wilkes University Cheerleaders show their pride and love for their university on game days and also in the community.

The football squad is traditionally composed of 20-25 members. That season begins in early August with camp and continues right through the last Men's Basketball game in February. They cheer at all home football games, local competitions, as well as halftime for the Men's Basketball home games. The squad practices two nights a week for two to three hours per practice. There are also community service and alumni events that the squad is required to participate in throughout the year.

Tryouts for the football and competition squad are held in April each year. The tryout is a two-day experience, where you must showcase your stunting, tumbling, cheering, jumping, and dancing abilities in front of a panel of judges. Cheerleaders on the football field

They cheer at all home and local Men's and Women's games. The squad practices once week for two to three hours per practice. To be a part of the Wilkes University Cheerleading football and competition squad you must have prior cheerleading experience. This means you must have extensive background in stunting, cheer, dance, and some gymnastic experience. The basketball squad does not need prior cheer experience but is preferred.

At tryouts you will be asked to learn 2 cheers and a 3 eight-count dance with music. You will also be asked to demonstrate your stunting ability whether it be as a back, base, or flyer, 2 jumps with one being a toe touch, and any gymnastic skills you may have.

Uniforms are paid for by the school. The girls are responsible for all other expenses which include sneakers, warm up jackets and pants, and bag.
