Family Day 2021 | Sept. 25

On behalf of the entire Wilkes University community, it is our pleasure to invite you to come onto campus to attend the 2021 Family Day

Family Day is an annual fall tradition held on the Wilkes campus, providing an opportunity for families to connect with their students while getting a first hand look into a day in the life at Wilkes! The weekend will afford you many opportunities to spend time together as a family, as well as to meet faculty, staff, administrators, friends and other Wilkes families.

Schedule

9:30-11:30 a.m. | Registration and Brunch

Family Day registration will be held in the Henry Student Center to check-in for the day. Families will have the opportunity to mingle, grab light refreshments and a schedule/tickets of the day’s events. Student organizations will be present to sell Wilkes “gear” to families! (Registration will continue at various campus locations throughout the day.)

9 a.m. - 7 p.m. | Colonel Corner Campus Store Hours

Visit the Colonel Corner, located on the 1st floor of the Henry Student Center for the latest in Wilkes apparel and accessories!

10:30-11:30 a.m. | Self Guided Historic Walking Tour of Wilkes-Barre

Learn more about the area’s history and its impact on the Wilkes University campus! Booklets, provided by the Wilkes-Barre City Department of Health, will be available to lead the way!

10:30-11:30 a.m. | How Engaged is your Colonel?

Hosted by the Office of Student Development, learn more about the many ways your student can be engaged and involved on campus, how involvement can help with resume building and lead to career opportunities! This session will be held in the Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the Henry Student Center.

11 a.m. | Women’s Volleyball vs. John Jay College

Watch the Colonels take on the Bloodhounds from John Jay College at the Arnaud C. Marts Center.

12-5 p.m. | Sordoni Art Gallery Exhibition

Visit the current exhibition, L’Esprit: Exploring Wit and Beauty in French Prints, a celebration of the joys and foibles of French society and culture between 1830 and 1930, when Paris was the world capital of artistic creativity, innovation, and opportunity.

12 p.m. | Tailgate Lunch!

Lunch will be served to families at Ralston Athletic Complex, While enjoying a full tailgate menu, families will be able to enjoy activities, take home Family Day photo booth photos and receive a complimentary Wilkes foam finger to help cheer on the Colonels! Wilkes shuttles will be available to transport guests to the Ralston Athletic Complex for the football game!

1 p.m. | Football vs. Alvernia Golden Wolves

Watch the Colonels take on the Golden Wolves from Alvernia University at Schmidt Stadium!

1 p.m. | Men’s Soccer vs. Immaculata University

Watch the Colonels take on the Mighty Macs from Immaculata University at Schmidt Stadium!

3-5 p.m. | Open Climb

Join Wilkes Adventure Education at the climbing wall in the McHale Athletic Center in the Simms Center. See what it’s like to climb the top the Wilkes “WAE”! All ages welcome!

3 p.m. | Women’s Volleyball vs. Montclair State University

Watch the Colonels take on the Red Hawks from Montclair State University at the Arnaud C. Marts Center.

4:30-5:30 p.m. | Paint and Sip

Hosted by Spirited Art, you and your guests will have an opportunity to sip on some tea (or hot cocoa!) and create a masterpiece for you to take with you! Held in the 1st Floor Student Lounge in the Henry Student Center, instruction and all supplies will be provided!

*This event will be by pre-registration and ticket only as there is limited space available

7-8 p.m. | Wilkes Bingo

Come to the Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the Henry Student Center to win Wilkes swag! Sponsored by the Wilkes University Programming Board!

8 p.m. | Light the Way Forward

Witness the transformation of Weckesser Hall by artist Jeff Dunbrow and explore Aborigional creatives on a massive scale! This video-mapped projection project celebrates the inauguration of Wilkes University’s 7th President, Dr. Greg Cant.

Enjoy a snack provided by local area food trucks and watch the one-of-a-kind light installation!

Things to Do While Visiting Your Wilkes Student

Looking for things to do when you come to campus? Take a look at some of the cool activitites right around the corner from Wilkes! Northeast Pennsylvania is home to waterfall hikes, an Indoor Trampoline Park, and even axe throwing at The Hatchet Factory. Celebrate Fall with a visit to one of our many pumpkin patches
