The Alternative Break program is an opportunity to reach a hand out to communities down the street, across our nation and around the globe.

Service

Over the past 21 years, Wilkes has worked with numerous organizations to build and repair homes, assist seniors, teach children, and bring help to people and communities in need. 

Culture

Each trip provides an opportunity to experience life in a different culture. Whether it’s food or music, language or dance, politics or recreation, every destination becomes an adventure!

Education

The work done before you leave for a trip matters just as much as the work you do during your trip. Participants will begin learning about the people, places, and spaces they’ll experience in the months before each trip focusing on the social, political, and economic issues that are currently at play.

Leadership & Teamwork

Student leaders play a key role in ASB trips through group facilitation, team building, fundraising, pre-trip education, developing the trip itinerary and leading group reflections. All participants work together to challenge themselves, take risks, communicate, and build trust among their group and those they’re serving. 

Fun

ASB trips are about building relationships, self-discovery, skill-building, reaching goals and learning something new. And when you do it all while serving others, what could be more fun?

Community Support

The generosity of friends and alumni allows the ASB program to expand and improve every year. This would not be possible without the contributions of Student Government, Programming Board, the Felice Salsburg Fund, and all who supported various fundraisers and events.
