Biography
Robert Dean Johnson is the author of a story collection, Delicate Men (Alternative Book); a novel, Californium (Plume-Penguin); a creative nonfiction chapbook, Something L.A. (Blue Cubicle); and a forthcoming memoir-in-essays, Poser (Vine Leaves). His essays and stories have appeared in Ascent, Baltimore Review, Cimarron Review, Evening Street Review, Natural Bridge, New Orleans Review, Permafrost, Salt Hill, Slice, The Southern Review, and elsewhere.
He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Arizona State University, an MA in English from Kansas State University, and a BS in Business Administration from Cal Poly Pomona. He is a former food server at Disneyland, next-day air freight loader at UPS, copywriter at advertising agencies in Los Angeles and Phoenix, and Professor of English/Director of Bluegrass Writers Studio Low-Res MFA program at Eastern Kentucky University. He’s married to the writer Julie Hensley, with whom he shares two children, two dogs, three cats, and several urban chickens.
