Dr. LaFleur F. Small

La Fleur F. Small, Ph.D., is an academic administrator with over 20 years of experience in higher education.

Dr. Small currently serves as Associate Provost for Academic and Diversity Affairs at Wilkes University. Dr. Small joined Wilkes in February of 2024. Dr. Small served as Academic Inclusion Officer (AIO) and Vice Provost for Academic Administration and Faculty Affairs at the University of Toledo. Dr. Small previously held the position of Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs at Wright State University. Dr. Small has also served as a Graduate Director of the Applied Behavioral Sciences Doctoral Fellowships (ABS) Program and later as Chair of Sociology and Anthropology at Wright State University. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology represented a six-unit academic program that includes African & African American Studies, Crime & Justice Studies, Women, Gender, Sex & Sexuality Studies, the Sociology and Anthropology undergraduate academic programs, and the Applied Behavioral Science (ABS) Master's Program.

She has served on editorial boards of several social science and health journals, including the Journal of Nursing in AIDS Care. Dr. Small’s training in medical sociology and epidemiology has led to her service as a grant reviewer for several agencies, including the Ford Foundation Diversity Pre-Doctoral, Doctoral, and Post-Doctoral Fellowships.

• Serves as the Associate Provost for Academic and Diversity Affairs in the division of Academic Excellence and Student Success (AESS)
• Directs the development and administration of the offices of:
  • Institutional Research
  • University Farley Library
  • Office of Diversity Initiatives
  • Academic Standards Committee
• Oversees the University accreditation process and serves as University Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO)
• Oversees the University Research Misconduct process and serves as University Research Integrity Officer (ORI)
• Serves as University-authorized designee for the faculty H-1B visa process
• Develops and facilitates updates to Academic policies and procedures at both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels
• Provides leadership and represents the Office of the Provost on the following University Committees:
  • General Curriculum Committee
  • University Assessment Committee
  • Committee on Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity
• Provide administrative and managerial support to the Provost on faculty personnel matters
• Collaborates with various University committees and departments to help cultivate an open, engaging campus and culture of belonging
