Contemporary Issues in American Domestic Policy
This short course will consider ten broad areas of American public policy, for example health care, social welfare, civil rights and liberties, education, energy/environment, and taxes. The most fundamental question underlying each policy area, however, is what the proper role of government should be in answering the question, that is, should we expect the federal and/or a state government to provide health care or regulate environmental conditions or provide education, or should we expect the marketplace to resolve all of these matters. Participants will be provided with articles from newspapers, magazines, and other sources with positions on both sides of each policy area in order to facilitate lively and thoughtful discussion.
This class will be held at the Jewish Community Center.
