Wilkes University Announces Mesa Advisory Board

Wilkes University has selected members for an advisory board to help steer its efforts in presenting degree programs in Mesa, Ariz.

The advisory board will serve as advocates and ambassadors for the University as it seeks to establish itself in the Mesa region. Board members will provide insight about the region and its educational needs and goals. They will also make recommendations on opportunities for enrollment growth, community and business partnerships, community service and internship and job placement.

The board consists of community, education and business leaders from the Mesa area. Two advisory board members, Robert Castellani, regional manager for the Principal Financial Group, and Ellen Van Riper, an attorney with Holloway, Odegard & Kelly, are alumni of the University. Advisory board members include:

Robert Castellani ‘85, regional managing director, Principal Financial Group
Dr. Michael Cowan, superintendent, Mesa Public Schools
Dr. Debra Duvall, executive director, Arizona School Administrators, Inc.
Sally Harrison, president and CEO, Mesa Chamber of Commerce
Cindy Ornstein, director of arts & culture, City of Mesa; executive director, Mesa Arts Center
Dr. Scott Somers, council member, City of Mesa

Ellen Van Riper ’83, Esq., attorney, Holloway, Odegard & Kelly, PLC

In January 2013, Wilkes began offering courses for a master’s degree in business administration and creative writing in Mesa. Starting in fall 2013, additional master’s degree programs in teaching English as a second language, classroom technology, engineering management, and mechanical engineering will be offered.
