Community Notification

An attempted robbery (purse snatching) has been reported to University officials and the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department. The incident was reported to have occurred on South Street near the UCOM Parking Lot today – Nov. 24, 2009. The suspects were two African American males, one approximately 6 feet tall, clean shaven and short haircut, wearing a black leather coat, tight-fitting stone wash jeans and a green Yankees shirt. The other male was approximately 6 feet, 2 inches tall, wearing baggy jeans, Red DC shoes, a hooded sweatshirt and a skull cap. He was wearing the hood over his head. There were no weapons involved. The suspects walked behind the student and attempted to remove her purse from her shoulder. The student was not injured and the suspects were not able to remove the purse.

As with all incidents, we ask that anyone with information regarding this event contact the Public Safety Office at 408-4999 or the Wilkes-Barre Police via 911. Community members may also make an anonymous report through the University CARE line (Campus Anonymous Reporting Extension) at 408-2273.
 
The University reminds students to be aware of their surroundings at all times. Students should take reasonable precautions to protect themselves. Do not walk alone at night: Use the Public Safety escort service. Do not allow unknown visitors into residences and refrain from leaving or propping exit doors open. Stay with friends while out. Please report all suspicious activity to the Public Safety Office at 408-4999.
