Give Blood on Sept. 15
From March through June 2020, the American Red Cross experienced a cancellation loss
of nearly 37,000 blood drives due to the impact of COVID-19 on communities nationwide.
Behind that number are real people in need of lifesaving care, and countless more who love and depend on them. The American Red Cross needs the ongoing support of blood donors and blood drive hosts to ensure blood products are available for patients when they need it.
It’s important to remember that blood is perishable and cannot be stockpiled.
Red blood cells must be transfused within 42 days of donation and platelets within just five days, so they must constantly be replenished.
Each day, the American Red Cross needs to collect nearly 13,000 blood donations and more than 2,600 platelet donations to meet the needs of patients at about 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country.
Please give blood from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Red Cross Bloodmobile on campus.
We can only process 30 donors on the bus, so we encourage appointments. Schedule your appointment at www.redcrossblood.org (sponsor code WILKESU), call 570-793-6715 or email Jacqueline.Dercole@redcross.
