Tackle the History of Wilkes Football in "Zeus and the Boys"
Book by Colonel Alum Captures Wilkes Football Glories of the 1960s
George Pawlush ’69 BS, ’76 MS, and a former director of public relations at Wilkes, recently published a book titled “Zeus and the Boys” that is now available on Amazon.com.
The book features Rollie Schmidt, who headed the Wilkes football program from 1962 to 1981.
Between 1965 and 1969, the Colonels were the talk of the nation when they won 37 of 40 games and captured five straight MAC titles and two Lambert Bowls, symbolic of eastern college prominence. Their 32-game winning streak during that time still ranks among the top ten in NCAA Division II history.
An important part of the look looks back on the player’s experiences and lessons learned during that era. These events later positively impacted their personal lives and professional careers.
