Year of the Vote to Celebrate Women's History Month

Please join the Year of the Vote (YOV) committee for our March Women's History Month events.

The YOV project is a interdisciplinary, year-long celebration of suffrage and an examination of topics that women are faced with today.  With it being an election year, we not only want to appreciate and honor the legacy of our foremothers but also want to mobilize our community with the information that they need to be informed on current events now. We do so by organizing our events around a monthly theme.

The project consists of numerous activities: a lecture series, EqualiTEAS, Open Mic, pop-up events, and even a podcast (Right in the Kisser).  We also look to support women-centric events that are already part of the Wilkes academic year such as the Women and Gender Studies Conference.

Save the date for these March events:

  • Celebrate International Women's Day on Sunday, March 8!

  • Lecture: Thursday, March 12, at 4:30 p.m. - Not Just Housewives: Women's Activism before the 19th Amendment by Amy Sopcak-Joseph, Assistant Professor of History

  • EqualiTEA: Tuesday, March 24, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Discussion: Clothing and Politics
    • Activity: Make your own button!

  • Open Mic/Poetry Slam: Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m.
Our podcast, Right in the Kisser, is available on itunes, spotify, soundcloud, and acast.
