You're Invited to a Book LaunchThe family of alumna Jennifer Diskin released a collection of her poetry, The Quiet Lilac Collection: The Powerful Voice of Jennifer Diskin, available now on Amazon.com.
All members of the Wilkes community are invited to attend the book launch from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, at Sidel’s Restaurant, 1202 North Main Avenue in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Diskin was a graduate of the first cohort in the M.A. program, majoring in poetry, and she was among the first students awarded a graduate assistantship in the program. Before that time, Diskin was well known in the NEPA writing community as a featured poet at readings in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. She was awarded an M.F.A. in the program posthumously in 2011. Her poetic voice and quiet smile graced the program's open mic readings at every residency she attended.
The Jennifer Diskin Scholarship is awarded annually to a student with demonstrated need, talent and a commitment to studying poetry. It is given in honor of alumna Jennifer Diskin who passed away in 2011 after a brave struggle with cancer. Started by her family, poetry faculty members nominate students who are already in the Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Wilkes University.
