Wilkes Researchers Publish Journal Article

Abas Sabouni, associate professor of electrical engineering, and his student Jakob Short, in collaboration with Professor William Terzaghi, from the biology department, recently published an article titled "Toward Magnetosomes for Breast Cancer Theranostics" in the IEEE Journal of Electromagnetics, RF and Microwaves in Medicine and Biology.

This research investigated the potential use of biogenic magnetosomes as a contrast agent for breast cancer detection using microwave imaging techniques. The proposed biogenic magnetosomes is a first-ever contrast agent that exists for microwave imaging and will make the tumor more visible to be detected at a very early stage. This work was supported by Wilkes University's research and scholarship fund.
