You're Invited to a Native American Heritage Month Conversation
"Indian Country in the Digital Age: From Resistance to Resurgence and Beyond"
Wednesday, Nov. 13 | 5 p.m. | UCOM 231
Birgit Brander Rasmussen, Associate Professor
English, General Literature and Rhetoric at Binghamton University
This workshop will engage students in a conversation about contemporary Native peoples in North America. We will discuss and debunk common myths and misconceptions and survey historical events and legal frameworks that have shaped the unique relationship between Native peoples and the U.S. government. In what promises to be a lively discussion of race and tribal diversity, digital activism, language revitalization, environmental struggles and the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women, we will think about what it means to be an ally to Native peoples in the 21st century.
