From the Desk of Patrick F. Leahy: Groundbreaking Ceremony this Monday Morning
Over the past week, the campus community has worked diligently to prepare for our Spring Commencement ceremonies. Although this occasion marks the unofficial end to the academic year, Wilkes operates as a 12-month university and activity remains high throughout the summer months.
In fact, on Monday morning, we will kick-off more than $3.3 million in campus enhancement projects. This ambitious plan, primarily focused on the Fenner Quadrangle and the area surrounding the Henry Student Center, will reshape the campus landscape, improve pedestrian safety, and add gathering spaces.
Please join me as we mark the start of this ambitious project at 9:30 a.m.on Monday morning. We’ll enjoy coffee and pastries on the porch of Capin Hall (overlooking the Gateway) and then hold a groundbreaking ceremony on the Gateway next to the Fenner Quadrangle at 10:00 a.m. Sen. John Yudichak, Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski, Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tony George, and Sarah O’Hara ’18 will also participate in the ceremony. If it is raining, we’ll gather in Weckesser Hall at 9:30 a.m. for both refreshments and the ceremony.
I hope that you will take some time out of your schedule to join me on Monday morning for this important occasion.
