Participate in Dump the Pump Day with the Luzerne County Transportation Authority
Take the bus and dump the pump!
Thursday, June 21, is the 13th Annual National Dump the Pump Day. Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the 2018 National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation to get where they need to go, instead of driving a car.
To celebrate, LCTA will make all of our routes FREE on June 21. This year, LCTA is focusing on the economic benefits of public transit, including providing people with rides to work, school, shopping, restaurants and much more. To highlight those benefits and encourage people to take advantage of public transit, we are going to feature prominent business people and community leaders riding the bus on that day. We hope these leaders will set an example, encouraging others to take advantage of public transit.
With the upcoming addition of late night bus service, LCTA can provide great benefits to Wilkes students who want seamless travel in both Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties.
Dump the Pump started in June 2006, when gas prices were $3 per gallon and emphasizes the convenience and affordability of public transportation. According to the March APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of over $9,894 annually by downsizing to one car.
Additionally, public transportation is a cornerstone of local economies in urban, suburban and rural communities. In fact, public transportation helps to make a community economically prosperous and competitive. Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns, powering community growth and revitalization.
