Red Cross Holds Blood Drive to Meet Critical Need
The American Red Cross will host a blood drive in the Henry Student Center on Thursday,
Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Interested donors may register online.
The American Red Cross has a critical need for blood and platelet donors now to help address a winter blood donation shortage caused by ongoing severe winter weather in parts of the country and widespread flu.
Winter is one of the most difficult times of year to collect enough blood products to meet patient needs. More than 550 blood drives have been forced to cancel due to winter weather in the first three weeks of January, causing over 16,500 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected. In addition to unfavorable weather, seasonal flu has contributed to very low turnout at many blood drives. Blood and platelet donations are critically needed in the coming days so that patients can continue to receive lifesaving treatments.
Right now, blood and platelet donations are being distributed to hospitals faster
than they come in.
Please help ensure the shelves are stocked with the lifesaving blood and platelet donations that patients depend on when disasters and severe winter weather strike, and for everyday survival.
Families and individuals who have needed blood thank you with all of our hearts for your support!
