Come to Empty Bowls

Nothing warms up the soul like a hot bowl of soup and helping those in need.

Wilkes University, in partnership with King's College, Luzerne County Community College and Wyoming Seminary, will hold its sixth annual Empty Bowls event to benefit local food banks. This year’s event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29 in the Henry Student Center Ballroom. Since being established in 2012, the event has raised more than $50,000.

Empty Bowls is a nationwide event that was first brought to Luzerne County by Jean Adams, a ceramics instructor here at Wilkes. Participants donate $15 for soup, bread, a drink and a bowl that is handmade by one of several local artists. The cost for children 12 and under is $5 and does not include a bowl. Additional bowls will be available for sale on the day of the event.
