Pharmacy Students Assist with Affordable Care Act Sign-Ups on Jan. 21

Student pharmacists in Wilkes University’s Nesbitt School of Pharmacy will assist community members in learning about and signing up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act — also known as Obamacare — on Saturday, Jan. 21. The session, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is being presented in cooperation with the Advocacy Alliance.

The event will be in the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy, located on the first floor of the Stark Learning Center.  Attendees should park behind UCOM or in the parking garage.

Please bring Social Security numbers or document information for immigrants with satisfactory status, employer and income information for everyone in the family, and federal tax information. Attendees may wish to determine their eligibility for tax credits towards health care plan premiums in the marketplace and sign up for an insurance plan that day, or just gather information.

This year the open enrollment period for signing up for health care through the Affordable Care Act runs form Nov. 1, 2016 to Jan. 31, 2017. After Jan. 31, the next open enrollment period for the Health Care Marketplace will be in November 2017. If you do not have health insurance after March 31, 2017, you may be assessed a penalty equal to 2.5 percent of household income or $695 per adult, whichever is higher.

Please call 570-408-4290 to make an appointment. Walk-in’s are welcome if space is available.
