Celebrate Heart Month

February is Heart Month!

As a Training Center for the American Heart Association, Wilkes University's Passan School of Nursing is dedicated their mission to decrease death and disability related to cardiovascular disease. A key strategy in the success of carrying out this mission is increasing the number of individuals trained in Hands Only CPR.

Throughout the month of February, Wilkes and Kings will be competing with each other to see who can train more people in the technique of Hands Only CPR. On the Wilkes campus, nursing students will be conducting flash mobs and training sessions throughout the month. We would like to get as much participation as possible on campus. One way we can do this is by allowing the flash mob and training to occur in the last 5-10 minutes of a scheduled class.

Interested faculty should email lori.drozdis@wilkes.edujoyce.chmil@wilkes.edu or lori.novitski@wilkes.edu with a request. The request needs to include the the faculty member's name, the class, classroom and class time. Nursing students will then show up 5 to 10 minutes before the end of class, dancing to the music of "Stayin' Alive". The dance is short, but teaches the rhythm of the chest compressions. At the end of the dance, the nursing students will have manikins available for students and faculty to practice compressions and compete the Hands Only CPR training.

We hope many of you will choose to participate.
