SDIPPE Opportunity: ER and Helping Hands at Geisinger Wyoming Valley
November 24, 2015|Submitted by: Nesbitt News
Dear P1, P2 and P3 Pharmacy Students: Volunteers are needed to support activities
in the Emergency Room and Helping Hands programs at Geisinger Wyoming Valley. Note
that a minimum 50 hour commitment (about 5 hours per week) is requested. Hours are
eligible for patient care, SD-IPPE hours. Supervision is provided by nursing staff.
A brief synopsis of activities are listed below: The Helping Hands program is focused
on providing care and attention to our patients who require one-to-one sitters throughout
our hospital. The Patient Care Unit volunteer incorporates the role of the sitter
with additional important tasks, all done in medical/surgical care units. Volunteers
may perform one, some or all of these tasks during any given shift. The ED volunteer
also interacts with both patients, families and our staff at the point of contact
– our ED/Trauma Center. Training and support is provided by Geisinger. Students interested
in applying for these experiences should complete an application at
geisinger.org/volunteer. Additional clarifications/questions may be directed to Ms. Barbara Coyle, volunteer
coordinator at
bbcoyle@geisinger.edu or Dr. Malinowski at
Jennifer.malinowski@wilkes.edu.
