Creative Writing Faculty Member Nancy McKinley's Book Reviewed on National Public Radio

NHeadshot of Nancy McKinleyancy McKinley, a founding faculty member in the Maslow Family Graduate Creative Writing Program at Wilkes University, stepped into the national spotlight on May 26 when her book, "St. Christopher on Pluto," was reviewed on National Public Radio. The book, which is a novel in stories, received a glowing review from Maureen Corrigan, who reviewed it on the nationally syndicated program Fresh Air.

Published by West Virginia University Press in January 2020, "St. Christopher on Pluto" recounts the adventures of two friends, MK and Colleen, as they make their way across the northeastern Pennsylvania landscape – often traveling in Big Blue, MK’s decrepit Buick. In addition to the novel, McKinley has published fiction and nonfiction in numerous journals and been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She has won the Creative Writer Thayer Fellowship in the Arts and the John Gardner Newhouse Award.

In reviewing the book, Corrigan noted, "St. Christopher on Pluto drew me in by its humor, but, like the best comic fiction, it's constructed out of insider social observations that sting as much as they amuse." To read or hear her review in its entirety, please go here.
