Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy Hosts Second Annual Opioid Awareness Walk on April 4
The Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy will host a second annual opioid epidemic awareness walk on Thursday, April 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Participants will walk from the Wilkes campus to Kirby Park and back to raise awareness for the opioid epidemic.
The event begins in the Fenner Quadrangle in the center of campus. Participants will walk on S. River St., across the Market Street Bridge, around the Kirby Park pond and back. In the event of inclement weather, participants will depart from the Henry Student Center and the walk will be shortened.
Educational materials and t-shirts will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. A suggested $5 donation will benefit the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department’s Naloxone program. Last year, 311 doses of Naloxone were administered by the department. The entirety of the funds from the walk will go directly to the program.
Wilkes students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the community, are welcome to attend. Participants can register by contacting Dylan Fox at email@example.com.
The event is organized by the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy Generation Rx team. Generation Rx increases public awareness of prescription medication abuse and encourages health care providers, community leaders and college students to actively work to prevent abuse.
