Wilkes University Presents The Nutcracker, Dec. 15 to 17
The Degnan Ballet Center at Wilkes University’s Conservatory presents a full-length production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker from Dec. 15 to 17 at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts, 239 South River Street, Wilkes-Barre. Choreography is by Peter Degnan and Kristin Degnan-Boonin.
Wilkes University junior Sarah Hoffman will play the role of Klara, the ballet’s central character. Hoffman, from York, Pa. is studying math and education. In addition, more than a dozen Wilkes theater majors are involved in the production, as well as children who take classes at the Conservatory.
A holiday favorite, The Nutcracker is a classic story in which a young girl’s favorite toy comes alive, whisking her to a magical land of sugarplum fairies and sweets. The show includes performances from guest artists Julie Degnan, Rubén Suárez and TJ Firneno.
The Nutcracker will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17.
