P2 and P3 Students Needed for Interprofessional Addiction Service

Contact – Dr. Franko

There will be an upcoming opportunity for seven P2 and P3 students to participate in an interprofessional service focusing on those with or associated with addiction. The participants will be placed on a team consisting of a social worker and addiction counselor and see patients at the local domestic abuse shelter and children and youth center. This is being done in conjunction with a grant with Misericordia and Marywood.

Those interested are asked to register for an interview with Dr. Franko via a sign-up sheet on his office door. Interview dates will be next Monday for P3's and next Thursday for P2's. Those selected must attend a mandatory training program at Misericordia on Saturday Feb 18th from 9-12. Site days are still being determined but will most likely be twice a week for approximately three hours which may include nights and/or weekends. There will be a pharmacist on site to assist with daily operations. You will be expected to work with your team to develop progress notes and complete reflection journals on the experience. The main role of the pharmacy service will be naloxone training/education and medication reconciliation. If selected, you must have state naloxone certification prior to starting to see patients.

P3's will start the program in March and continue until they begin the first APPE block. Over the summer (if possible) and from the start of the semester until November, the selected P2's will take their place. If none of the available interview slots fits your schedule, please contact Dr. Franko to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
