Allen West Delivers Allan P. Kirby Lecture in Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Oct. 5 at Wilkes University
Former Florida congressman and retired army officer Allen West delivers the Allan P. Kirby Lecture in Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship on Wednesday, Oct. 5. West speaks at 7 p.m. in the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center on Wilkes University’s campus. His topic will be “Building a Strong Economy Through Small Business and Military Veterans.” The event is free and open to the public.
West retired from the Army as a lieutenant colonel after a 22-year military career. He understands the value and challenges of effective leadership. He believes in leveraging military leadership skill to ensure business success. Soldiers are trained to face hidden enemies, adjust to changing landscapes, meet short deadlines and experience the fog of war. West teaches organizations how these military principals will help ensure an organization’s success in today’s market when applied to the business world.
As a former Florida congressman, West served on the committee on small business and two of its subcommittees: the subcommittee on contracting and workforce; and the subcommittee on investigations, oversight and regulations. Based on his experience and political philosophies, West considers small businesses to be the foundation of our economy. He believes recent laws such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) are jeopardizing the livelihood of small businesses and the U.S. economic foundation. West shares his concerns for small business owners and the outlook for our economy.
West holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and two master’s degrees, one from Kansas State University and another from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officers College. He is a Senior Fellow at the London Center for Policy Research, a Fox News contributor, and the author of Guardian of the Republic: An American Ronin’s Journey to Family, Faith and Freedom.
The Young America’s Foundation is a sponsor of West’s speech. Young America’s Foundation is committed to ensuring that increasing numbers of young Americans understand and are inspired by the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.
