Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Honors Students in Wilkes University's Nesbitt School of Pharmacy
The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association honored students in Wilkes University's Nesbitt
School of Pharmacy with two awards at its recent conference. The conference was held
at the Crown Plaza Philadelphia – King of Prussia on Sept. 24, 2016, in King of Prussia,
Pa. Wilkes University was awarded both the Government Relations Student Award and
Membership Student Award.
The 2016 Membership Award recognizesthe school that excelled at membership recruitment, retention, and involvement. The Wilkes University student group held several unique recruiting events including a Mocktail Party, a Pre-Pharmacy Round Table, an event at SkyZone, and a pharmacy-themed spelling bee – all while focusing on growing and retaining membership. The Wilkes group received a commemorative plaque and a $200 cash prize for their organization.
The 2016 Government Relations Award salutes the school which has gone above and beyond in the area of advocacy work. Wilkes University had 28 attendees at PPA’s Pharmacy Legislative Day in Harrisburg, who had 40 appointments with legislators on pharmacy issues. The students also held bake sales, sold clothing and portfolios to raise money, graduated 18 students from the Government Relations Advocacy for Student Pharmacists (GRASP) program, conducted letter-writing campaigns and held numerous meetings at their school on legislative and policy matters. The Wilkes group received a commemorative plaque and a $200 cash prize for their organization.
