Wilkes University Family Business Alliance Hosts Strategic Planning Seminar on Feb. 9
The Family Business Alliance at Wilkes University will host Charles Cohen, managing director and third-generation owner of Benco Dental Company and John E. Park, Ed.D., director for Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP., for a seminar, “Build Your Strategic Plan,” on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the Henry Student Center Ballroom, 84 W. South St., Wilkes-Barre.
The seminar will provide information about strategic planning: its benefits, how to create a strategic plan, and how you can use strategic planning to engage a team. Handouts will be provided at the event, and a recap and video will be sent to all attendees, Family Business Alliance members and sponsors.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with a light breakfast. The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Advanced registration is required.

Family business owners, non-family leaders working in the business, other family members, employees and family members not currently engaged in the business, existing Family Business Alliance members, new members, and those considering membership are encouraged to attend.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Cohen joined Benco as a territory representative in 1989. After taking on management roles in the company’s sales and marketing department, he assumed a senior leadership role in 1997.
Park maintains a targeted consulting and coaching practice where he works with clients on issues related to strategic planning, change management, emotional intelligence and leadership development. He has multiple publications including co-authorship of the book Creating in House Sales Development Programs: and regularly speaks at regional and national conferences.
Park is active in several industry organizations including American Society of Training and Development, American Institute of Certified Public Accountant, and Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
The Wilkes University Family Business Alliance was developed by regional business owners and is a member-driven organization that aims to enable local family businesses to maintain and grow a profitable business and successfully transfer management and ownership to the next generation. The alliance provides its members with executive educational programs, enhanced networking opportunities with fellow family business owners, a forum to discuss common issues and concerns, and exposure to nationally recognized experts to ensure that the businesses’ needs are constantly identified and addressed.
