Allan P. Kirby Center For Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Wilkes University Highlights Entrepreneurial Achievements and Services at April 14 Showcase

The Allan P. Kirby Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Wilkes University spotlights its services and successes at its second annual showcase on Thursday, April 14. Held from 4 to 7 p.m. in the University Center on Main, 169 S. Main St., the showcase will allow attendees to meet entrepreneurs working with the Kirby Center and with community partners supporting the center’s activities. Information about services and opportunities available to businesses associated with the Kirby Center also will be available. The showcase is free and the public is invited to attend.

A formal program will be held at 5 p.m. that includes recognition of the Kirby Scholars, a group of students providing business support in areas such as accounting, communications, marketing and law. Business people will be recognized as the Kirby Center’s Executive Business Mentors of the Year. The program also will formally recognize the new name of the Wilkes Enterprise Center as the Allan P. Kirby Enterprise Center at Wilkes University.

Since the launch of the Allan P. Kirby Enterprise Center in 2015, more than 30 businesses have received assistance from the center. Increased mentorship services via a partnership with SCORE announced in December 2015 provided new services to businesses. Businesses providing products and services as diverse as pet beds, technology for concussion assessment and photography services have received support.

The Allan P. Kirby Center enables Wilkes University students, faculty, staff, and community members to create a strategy to fully commercialize their business ideas and establish independent businesses that will enhance the entrepreneurial climate of Wilkes University and northeast Pennsylvania including specific efforts to support the redevelopment of downtown Wilkes-Barre.

 The center is committed to teaching the nature of free enterprise, value creation, and entrepreneurship through curricular and experience-based activities.Services are offered in the following areas:
