Integrative Media Major Steve Dziedziak Wins American Advertising Award
Steve Dziedziak, a senior integrative media major from Shenandoah, Pa., won an American Advertising Federation Silver Award in the student competition of the northeastern Pennsylvania chapter’s annual American Advertising Awards (formerly ADDY Awards). Dziedziak received the award in the print advertising category for a poster advertisement he created for a fictional hair pomade company called Wild Thing Pomade.
The American Advertising Federation is the nation’s oldest national advertising trade association. Dziedziak’s poster was one of the more than 50,000 entries the organization receives each year in local competitions. All entries are judged by a panel of industry professionals. Silver Award-winning entries are considered outstanding and worthy of recognition.
“It's funny, because I didn't even know I won it until about a week before the actual ceremony,” Dziedziak said. “You don't just get an award every day, so hearing I earned some kind of positive recognition for something I created is exciting.”
Dziedziak, who minors in art and marketing, said his ADDY win is a validation for him. Set to graduate this year, he’s looking excitedly towards the future and affectionately back at his time at Wilkes University, a time which helped him find a career at which he could truly excel.
“I didn't know anything about graphic design programs,” Dziedziak, who came to Wilkes with an undeclared major, said, “but once I found out creating and designing could be a plausible lifestyle, I realized there is nothing else I could see myself doing for the rest of my life.”
