Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski to be Guest of Honor at Wilkes University “Celebration of Education”

Wilkes University is hosting a “Celebration of Education” to mark American Education Week with guest of honor Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski. The event will be on Thurs., Nov. 20, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. in the Henry Student Center Ballroom and the cost is $25 per person.

The Wilkes University Department of Education and Drs. Bob and Judy Gardner, both faculty members in the department, invite area educators to take part in this celebration and enjoy a chance to socialize with colleagues.

The event will honor Pashinski for his contributions to both the field of education and the Wyoming Valley community. Proceeds from the event will benefit education scholarships for Wilkes students.

Pashinski, a Democrat who represents the 121st District, is a member of the Wilkes class of 1967, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in music education. Before entering politics, Pashinski taught music and directed chorus at Greater Nanticoke Area High School. During his education career, he served as chief spokesperson, vice president and president of the GNA Education Association, the district’s teacher’s union.

After retiring from teaching, he was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2006. He serves on the house aging and older adult services, gaming oversight, insurance and health and human services committees. Pashinski also serves as house deputy whip and is a board member of the Governor’s Pennsylvania Health Information Exchange.
