In the accounting major at Wilkes University Mesa campus, students learn how to analyze complex financial data.

If you want to open pathways ranging from small business opportunities to government employment analyzing financial data, earning your B.S. in Accounting is the right choice.

Accountants are always in high demand, and Wilkes accounting majors are some of the most sought after students on campus by employers.

Those enrolled in the program are taught how to collect, analyze, validate and present data and information about organizations and individuals that accurately reveal their financial position and performance. You’ll also develop your leadership, technical, communication and critical-thinking skills, which will be valuable no matter which field you enter.

Accounting is the basis for all business decisions and operations. Wilkes’ accounting majors begin their college experience with a combination of technical and entrepreneurial projects. The experience includes courses in financial, managerial and tax accounting while as well as complex projects that integrate knowledge.

Students with this degree may enter careers in public accounting, private accounting, not-for-profit accounting, or in management.

CPA Option

Students interested in entering the public accounting profession may select the best path for achieving the required 150 credit hours needed for licensure. Individual advising will help you prepare to take the CPA exam in the specific state desired. Click here for information on various states.

Student Research

Wilkes’ accounting majors regularly participate with their faculty in research projects, learning such skills as constructing questionnaires, interpreting results and developing recommendations. Some examples of student research include:

In addition to our academic rigorous program, which has a 99.99 percent placement rate, we also emphasize leadership and decision-making through a hands-on process. This is why our students are required to complete a formal internship experience. Graduates from our program have interned at:

Personal and Professional Development

The Personal and Professional Development series, unique to Wilkes Sidhu School students, will engage you in a process of discovery and development. You'll explore knowledge, values, learning styles and competencies as you lead by doing. After learning about yourself and finding your strengths and weaknesses, the class will explore professional skills that can add to your career development. These courses include resume writing and interview skills and also include practical advice on email correspondence, social events with coworkers, and other situations young professionals often find themselves facing.
