Mr. Carl Brigido is the Director/Chief Engineer of the Thomas P. Shelburne Television Center. He joined Wilkes in 1983 from the Hahnemann Hospital Television Network, and was previously with WVIA TV for ten years. His assignment was to build a Television Production Facility where Wilkes could teach Communication students the art of Television Production. At the time, there were a few cameras in the corner of the room and they had to be replaced. We had a long way to go. With the help of Dr. Bradford Kinney, Carl was able to get the equipment needed to get started along with some extra classrooms that were transformed into studios. This was a good start, but something was needed on a more professional level. Through a donation from Catherine Shelburne, the widow of Television Pioneer Thomas Shelburne, and many other donors, the State of the Art Television Center in The Stark Learning Center was begun. The Center was dedicated in 1996. The facility has 14 rooms including three studios, State of the Art Digital Cameras, Editing equipment and Television production equipment. We are on Service Electric Cable Channel 97 and have a potential to reach over 30 thousand homes. Carl routinely assists in teaching television production classes, and advises students in the production of Wilkes World, a weekly television magazine program.
“I think the greatest satisfaction is seeing students use the facility, graduate and begin working in the field and knowing that you have had a small part in their success.”
