Biography
Dr. Matus, Ph.D., M.B.A., comes to Wilkes University from Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA, where he was an Assistant Professor of Business Administration. He previously taught at Xavier University in the Masters program in Health Services Administration specializing in Health Care Strategy. A native of WyomingValley, he graduated from King’s College with a degree in Business Administration. He also holds an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, CA and a Ph.D. in Health Services and Management from Old DominionUniversity in Norfolk, VA.
A widely published author of papers and articles on Health Care Management, Dr. Matus brings to Wilkes a wealth of both teaching and professional experience. His military service includes tours as both an Officer in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy. His military assignments included tours aboard the USS Wasp, Naval Hospital Bethesda and the Fleet Hospital in Croatia as part of the United Nations peacekeeping forces in the former Yugolsav Republic.
Dr. Matus’ community service record is broad and includes serving as a member of the Cincinnati Board of Health, President of the MidAmerica Healthcare Executives, St. Louis; service on the Mayor's Cultural Diversity Action Team in Portsmouth, VA; and most recently a member of the Patient Safety Committee for Susquehanna Health System. A former exchange student in Denmark for one year, he also served for eight years as the area coordinator of an International Exchange program and has hosted several foreign exchange students.
In his current position in the Division of Business of the Jay S. Sidhu School of Business and Leadership, Dr. Matus will teach courses in strategy and business policy. His research interests include motivation, job satisfaction and workforce diversity. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on the editorial board for The Journal of Health Administration Education.
