Dr. Dominick P. Trombetta

Associate Professor

Pharmacy Practice

Biography

Dr. Dominick Trombetta, associate professor of pharmacy practice,
brings nearly two decades of clinical experience to the classroom. Before arriving at Wilkes, he spent 17 years at Wilkes-Barre’s Mercy Hospital in a variety of capacities, including pharmacist, clinical coordinator and most recently director of pharmacy.

Dr. Trombetta’s specialty is in geriatrics, and many of the courses he teaches...
cover disease topics like arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, insomnia and pain management. But aside from teaching about medications and treatments, Dr. Trombetta believes the field of pharmacy is more than that.

“It’s rewarding to teach students that there is a practice beyond dispensing managing medication, and how other medical professionals appreciate our input,” he said. “It’s always challenging. Teaching students encourages me to keep up with the latest in geriatric disease, and to better optimize medication use.”

In addition to teaching and overseeing clinical rotations,
Dr. Trombetta was also the coordinator of a geriatrics residency program, held at Wilkes in July 2005 where students will provide pharmacy care to geriatric patients.

“This was intensive training in internal medicine in an impatient environment,” he said of the hands-on learning experience.

Dr. Trombetta is active in extracurricular activities as well, as faculty advisor to the Alpha Chi honor society and co-advisor to the student chapter of the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacy Association. Outside the classroom, he enjoys bike riding, weight training and many outdoor activities.

Dr. Trombetta earned his B.S in pharmacy from Temple University and his Pharm D. from Shenandoah University in West Virgnia.

Dr. Trombetta's thoughts about the benefits of teaching at Wilkes...
“The elite interaction with students. Given our small class sizes, we get to know students and work more closely. I love working with a very motivated and dynamic faculty. We have a true team environment in which we all work really well together. Our end product is an innovative approach to pharmacy education.”

“In pharmacy, I find the students to be very bright and motivated and take advantage of the different types of educational experiences we offer. For example, in their sixth year, the students travel on rotations- early in the morning, work all day, and then go home to more work. It’s rewarding to see how they take advantage of the opportunity to learn and enjoy the experience.”
