Wilkes has been fielding a varsity softball team for the past 31 years.
During that time the Lady Colonels have amassed an overall record of 459 wins, 333 losses and four ties. Wilkes teams have also earned 14 post-season playoff berths, including 11 in the past 16 years.
During 16 of the last 19 years, Wilkes has posted a non-losing record. In 1999, the Lady Colonels set a new school record by finishing the campaign with an overall record of 29-8. That same season, the squad captured the Freedom League championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Championship. The 2006 season saw the Lady Colonels post an overall record of 28-15, win the Freedom Conference crown, and earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division Championship.. It was the fourth appearance in the NCAA field for Wilkes softball teams. The 1982 team advanced to the tournament, as did the 1989 team.
The Lady Colonels have also had their share of individual honors bestowed upon their players. Since 1981, 61 Wilkes softball players have been named first team All-Conference. Over the course of just the past 10 years, 16 Wilkes players have been named to Regional All-American teams, with three players earning All-American honors.
Among the standouts who have played for Wilkes is 2007 graduate Laurie Agresti. Agresti, who earned Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Year honors during each of her four season, concluded her career as just the fourth pitcher in NCAA Division III history to surpass the 1,000 strikeout mark with 1,040. She also established a new NCAA Division III record by averaging an amazing 12.39 strikeouts per game. Agresti was a four-time Regional All-American and a three-time member of the CoSIDA Academic All-America District II team.
