The Wilkes University men's tennis team returns four starters...
from last season's squad that posted a 17-3 dual match record and advanced to the Freedom Conference championship match for the second straight year.
The Colonels will have to replace their top two players from a year ago, graduated seniors Madhan Srinivasan and Hassan Shah. Srinivasan, who won the MAC number-two singles title and teamed with Shah to claim the conference's number-one doubles crown, was a four-time first team All-Conference selection. Shah earned first team honors three times and was the 2003 Player of the Year after winning the MAC singles title. The duo combined to post a 106-16 singles record during their careers. They also had a combined record of 92-19 in doubles play.
Senior Arvin Narula will try and help offset the loss of Srinivasan and Shah. Narula was a second team All-Conference selection a season ago after fashioning an 11-5 singles record and a 10-5 doubles mark. Fellow senior John Lowe, who was 17-4 in singles and 17-3 in doubles, also returns for the Colonels.
Two other starters, sophomore Josh Gardner and junior Ben Holwitt also return. Gardner was 17-6 in singles competition and 18-4 in doubles play. Holwitt had a 0-12 singles record and a 0-4 doubles mark. Also expected to battle for a starting berth is junior Salman Punekar. Punekar saw ample playing time in 2005 and went 3-7 in singles and 5-8 in doubles.
