With 13 veterans, including their top seven scorers, returning...
it is easy to see why the Wilkes University women's lacrosse team is anxious to start the 2006 season. The Lady Colonels will open their campaign on Thursday, March 23, when they host Drew University in a Middle Atlantic Conference game.
Leading the list of returnees is sophomore Stacy Fimmano. Fimmano set a Wilkes single-season record by scoring 43 goals during her freshman season. Senior Jennifer Compton also returns after tallying 22 goals and handing out a pair of assists. Also back is senior Lyndsay Asinelli, who had 15 goals and three assists.
Senior Kathryn Currier and juniors Monica Gehret and Catherine Dzubaty are also back in the mix. All three players were credited with four goals a season ago. Others who should make key contributions include seniors Cassie Malone, Erica Buchholz and Pam Carey, and sophomores Angela Wood, Lili Dibai and Krista Overstrom.
Sophomore Dara Witty is back in goal after starting 13 contests as a freshman. Witty registered 100 saves and allowed 15.31 goals per contest last season.
