Alumni Association Minutes

April 17, 2012, Student Union Building

Approval of Minutes
April minutes were reviewed and approved by motion of Peggy and Seconded
by Darlene.

Treasury Report

Joe was able to give us an updated Treasury Report since there was some
confusion on our balances. Although he did say he would have to get us
current figures for the savings account as this statement is only generated
every 3 months. With regard to the other accounts the balances were as
follows, according to Joe:

Checking: $1145.12
January CD: $1000.00
March CD: $1601.98
Tom J.: $345.88

By copy of these Minutes to Joe, I will be asking him to provide us with a
complete updated list of all of these accounts, so that we can have the most
current account balances for our next meeting. (Thank you Joe)

Staff Reports:

Tom:
The search for a new Program Director will start after we receive
word on our funding status, which will hopefully be sometime
around May 31. We are on a 5 year grant cycle.

Sarah:

Jr. Seminar was good. Most of the students have signed up for
their ACT/ SATs. The Jr.s are finishing up their State School
presentations.
Sr.s most have their deposits for college in. Sarah has nominated a
few students for the Kohls Scholarship.
Summer residential staff is in place. We are pleased to welcome
back Sandy as Resident Director for her 9th Summer. Jennifer
Early (a UB alumni) will be the Asst. Resident Director, and we
are also pleased to have back Melissa and all of the Tonys... Just
Tony, Tony G. and Anthony. We also we be welcoming a new TC
for the summer.

Chuck:

Spring Semester ends in 2 weeks. There will be 39 Seniors
graduating on May 3. Summer program planning has already
begun. 90 % of the Sophomores have applied to attend the summer
program. The staff is getting in place and we are in good shape to
start the summer, which will be from June 25- August 3.

Committee Reports:

Membership: Karen Vino had some business cards printed up,
which we have been handing out every opportunity we receive.
Fundraisers: 4rd Annual Wine Trip is scheduled for October 13,
2012.
Scholarship: Members of the Board recently met with 4
wonderful students who were nominated for the Scholarship. After
the interviews we were all in agreement that our recipient this year
would be.... TBA (after graduation)
45th Celebration: Will be held July 22 on what is left of the
greenway on campus. We are also tossing around the idea of a
gathering on Saturday night at Fiddler’s Green in Larksville.
Student Interaction: Members of the Board have met with students
in the Jr. Seminar class. We and they enjoyed this very much, as
always we look forward to doing it again. We also discussed the
potential of having the Ice Cream Social again this summer with
the summer program students.

Activities.
FAFSA Night was great.
TRIO Day was amazing as always.
Sarah went to Washington DC.
The Pin Dinner was a great evening for all who attended.
We have received word that the grant for Community Fellows has
been given to us again this year.
Baltimore Trip for the Sophomores and Jrs. is in May.
Old Business:

New Business:

Sarah discussed having an Alumni Panel for the Summer program.
She will get us a date for that and more information will follow.
Alumni Newsletter. Tom suggested this is a task better suited for
the staff as they have more information readily available to them.
Tom noted that he would begin brainstorming some good ideas for
a Newsletter and considering this is our 45th Anniversary
Celebration.. It seems like a good time to get a Newsletter out.
