Many online library services are available to Wilkes students who are unable to actually be on campus -- Distance Learners. To access these services, all students must have a valid Wilkes email username and password. If you need assistance in obtaining a username/password, please contact the
University Help Desk.
Books
The Library's online catalogue Virtua is accessible -- without a password -- via the BOOK SEARCH link in the left column of every library web page.
Virtua includes all the resources held in Farley Library as well as many holdings in the Pharmacy Information Center. At this time no direct borrowing is available to off-campus students, but if you are affiliated with a local public/academic library, our books can be loaned to you through your local library's interlibrary loan service.
Journal Articles
The library will photocopy journal articles for you from print journals held in Farley Library. Articles not held in our collection will be obtained via interlibrary loan and will require extra time to arrive. If you wish, the articles can be emailed directly to you in PDF format. Copyright laws control all photocopying.
Online Indexes and Databases
Farley Library provides access to more than 65 online indexes and databases via the ARTICLE SEARCH link in the left column of the library web pages. To search these databases off-campus, you will be required to log in with your Wilkes email username and password. Many full-text articles citations are available through these databases, in both .pdf and .html formats.
One database, FirstSearch, requires an additional login. Please call the Reference Desk at 570-408-3214 for additional information.
If you have found articles that are of interest, check if the name of the journal is in the ELECTRONIC JOURNALS list (also accessible from the left column of library web pages) to discover whether the Library has electronic access. If so, the articles can be read online. It you do not find your citation, you can use the online interlibrary loan form to request a copy of the journal articles.
Interlibrary Loan
This service is available for journal article photocopy requests. A link to the online interlibrary loan form is available in the left column of every library web page after you click article search. Please indicate if you are a student in the creative writing program. The articles can be faxed or e-mailed to you.
