Wilkes University ABET Acredited Engineering DepartmentHands-on Experience
Wlkes University’s engineering programs combine small class sizes with advanced research and unparalleled hands-on learning opportunities.

Students in our ABET accredited program work one-on-one with expert faculty in cutting-edge fields such as surgical robotics, haptic technology, nanotechnology and microfluidics. Environmental engineers use actual field equipment as they gain real -world experience in areas such as natural gas exploration and monitoring, lead abatement , flood control and air and water quality.

Our engineering faculty are active teachers who work closely
with students in classrooms and laboratories; labs are not taught by graduate student teaching assistants. As part of Engineering and Physics program, you will graduate with confidence in your ability to understand and solve problems because we will help you develop a mental discipline for critical thinking.

Gain hands-on experience on equipment used in modern industry.
You’l l have opportunity to do graduate-level research in our state-of-the-art laboratories, which include:

  • Applied Manufacturing
  • Automation Robotics
  • Communications
  • Computation
  • Confocal Microscopy
  • Electric Machines
  • Electrical Measurements and Mechatronics
  • Fluids and Aerodynamics
  • Heat and Mass Transfer
  • Materials Characterization
  • Mechanical Design and Testing
  • Microelectronic Development
  • Nanocoating
  • Physics

Cooperative Learning and Internship Experiences
Our Cooperative Learning Program places juniors with companies such as Cornell Ironworks, Galaxy Brush, Quadrant Plastics, Pulverman, Tobyhanna Army Depot , Borton-Lawson, Gentex, Sanofi Pasteur, Lockheed Martin, LSI , Fairchild Semiconductor and Keystone Automation.

And senior capstones let teams tackle real corporate challenges as you design and produce solutions in business-sponsored projects. It’s not unusual for these experiences to lead to job offers. Environmental engineering students’ internships have included projects such as emergency spray pond sediment removal at the PPL Susquehanna Steam Electric Power Station, and phosphorous reduction in waste discharge at Janssen Biotech.

Possible Carreers:  Engineer, Teacher, Researcher, Health Techician, Manager, Scientist, Laboratory Facilities

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET.(www.abet.org)
