Patrick F. Leahy became the sixth president of Wilkes University on July 1, 2012. A native of Maryland, Dr. Leahy earned a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in higher education strategy and management. He was a Fried Fellow at Cornell University, where he earned a dual master’s degree in business administration and labor relations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Georgetown University.

Dr. Leahy came to northeast Pennsylvania in 2004 when he joined The University of Scranton as executive assistant to the president. After being appointed vice president for university relations, he led the successful completion of the university’s $125 million campaign. Prior to joining Wilkes, as Scranton’s first executive vice president, he was responsible for leading key components of the university’s five-year strategic plan, including development, government relations, undergraduate and graduate admissions, athletics, planning and information technology. Since 2006, he taught as an adjunct professor in the University Business Leadership Honors program in Scranton’s Kania School of Management.

Before beginning his career in higher education, Dr. Leahy was co-founder and president of The Business Affairs Forum, a 15,000-member distance learning community based in Ithaca, New York. He has worked as an investment officer at Allied Capital Corporation, as an account executive at Deluxe Corp., and as a development officer at Georgetown University.
