CHOIRS  ­


The University Chorus (MUS 125) – Dr. Steven Thomas, director

The University Chorus is the University’s largest choral ensemble. Recent repertoire has included the Vivaldi Gloria, Durante Magnificat, Charpentier Messe de Minuit pour Noël, Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Hanson Song of Democracy, Mozart Requiem, and a variety of shorter works. The Chorus is open to any member of the Wilkes community, including students, faculty and staff, by audition.
 
The Chamber Singers (MUS 126) –
Dr. Steven Thomas, director
The Chamber Singers is the University’s select vocal ensemble, and is open to any student member of the Wilkes University Chorus, by audition. The Chamber Singers typically performs a wide range of a cappella repertoire, from Renaissance to contemporary music. The Chamber Singers is the University’s touring choral ensemble, and frequently performs with the Robert Dale Chorale on the annual NEPA Bach Festival.
 
INSTRUMENTAL Ensembles
 
Civic Band (MUS 121) – Dr. Philip G. Simon, director
The Civic Band welcomes University students, adult community members, and advanced high school students to rehearse and perform outstanding concert band repertoire.  Recent repertoire includes Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli, La Festa Mexicana by H. Owen Reed, and The Inferno from The Divine Comedy by Robert W. Smith. Admission is by audition.
 
Chamber Winds (MUS 128 C)  – Dr. Philip G. Simon, director
This small wind ensemble provides an opportunity for University students to rehearse and perform music from the chamber wind repertoire. Membership is open to all University students by audition.

Pep Band (MUS 198 B)  – Dr. Philip G. Simon, director
The Pep Band provides an opportunity for the rehearsal, study and performance of the athletic band literature for the University student community, and local community members who play a wind or percussion instrument.
 
Jazz Ensemble (MUS 127) – Nick Driscoll, director
The Jazz Ensemble performs traditional and contemporary music for big band, at both on and off-campus venues.  Recent repertoire has included transcriptions of recordings made by Duke Ellington, arrangements for the Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich, and Thad Jones-Mel Lewis bands.  Admission is by audition.
 
String Ensemble (MUS 128 G) – Robert Helmacy, director
The String Ensemble provides an opportunity for students and community members to study, rehearse and perform the string chamber ensemble literature.  
 
Flute Ensemble (MUS 128 B) – Lish Lindsey, director
The Flute Ensemble provides an opportunity for students and community members to study, rehearse and perform the flute chamber ensemble literature.
