IT Services Announcement

Computer intrusions have grown so rapidly in recent years that they now represent a critical threat to everyone with a User ID and Password. The Information Technology Committee approved a revised technology security policy on March 6th, 2008 in order to ensure that appropriate protections for the Wilkes community are in place. One of the elements of this policy contains enhancing user password protections. The revised policy will require the following from users:
    1. Password changes – Users will be required to change their passwords every 180 calendar days.

    2. Limit the re-use of your old passwords – The new policy will enforce password history. The system will track your past five passwords and prevent you from changing your password to any of these.

    3. Login lockout – The system will restrict a user who attempted to but failed logging into a computer after 5 attempts. This account will be locked by the system for a period of 15 minutes. After the 15 minute period has expired you may attempt to login again.

    4. Use complex passwords – This requirement will not change from the current policy. You will still need to use a password at least 8 characters in length with uppercase, lowercase and numeric characters in combination.

Users may change their password using the Change Password Tool located in the Account Management Tools channel on the Help Tab in MyWilkes. If you have forgotten your password or fail to change it before it expires you can use the new Self-Help Password Reset tool by clicking on the “Forgot your Password?” link on the login page of MyWilkes. Contact the Help Desk if you are not able to reset your password using this method at 570-408-HELP (4357) or 866-264-1462.

Your password will expire on April 22, 2008. It is recommended that you click on the link below and change your password now in order to ensure a smooth transition.
