HHMI funds facilitate development of faculty at several levels. Two new interdisciplinary tenure-track faculty members will be hired: one in the area of bio-physics, and the other at the interface between Biology, Math and Computer Science (e.g., epidemiology).
These two disciplines best complement Wilkes’ current strengths, provide the expertise necessary to support our planned curriculum revisions, and they represent emerging interdisciplinary fields that will likely offer new career opportunities for students.
These funds will also support current faculty in their efforts to:
Revise curricula
Attend training workshops
Pursue their ongoing scholarly activities.
Finally, the grant from HHMI will support the addition of four postdoctoral fellows in the areas such as
Molecular biology
Evolutionary ecology
Informatics
Spatial statistics
These postdoctoral fellows will participate in some of the new and ongoing teaching efforts and collaborate with faculty and students on research.
