The HHMI grant recognizes the outstanding biology education that Wilkes offers—an education that is not only characterized by rigorous coursework and practical experience, but a first class research environment that is supported by extensive funding. 

Funding comes from groups such as:

• The National Science Foundation
• The National Institutes of Health
• Other Federal and State Agencies

The HHMI grant:

• Adds 6 additional summer, undergraduate research positions bringing the total to approximately 15.
• Helps to ensure sustainability and growth to the undergraduate research program.
• Covers students’ salaries
• Helps defray costs of student-based research
• Supports student travel to other research sites in the U.S. and across seas. (e.g., Yale, Purdue Notre Dame, field research in Costa Rica).
